Pop tarts have long been a favorite treat of kids (and adults) everywhere! Whether you eat them straight from the package or warm them up in the toaster, pop tarts are a great snack. They’re even more enjoyable when they’re vegan pop tarts!
Which Pop Tarts are vegan?
Fun fact: unfrosted pop tarts are vegan as-is, so you totally don’t have to give them up! But if you’re looking for something a bit more gourmet (or if your snack of choice is a frosted pop tart) you’ll definitely want to give this recipe for Nostalgic Homemade Vegan Pop Tarts a try.

Vegan Pop Tarts
- 1 1/2 cups frozen fruit
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup cold cubed non-dairy butter
- 5 tbsp very cold water
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp water
- 4 tbsp vegan rainbow sprinkles optional
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line/grease a baking sheet
- In a saucepan over medium heat add the fruit and the sugar
- Let simmer for 20 minutes
- Dissolve the cornstarch in the water, then add the dissolved mixture to the saucepan
- Puree complete mixture in a blender
- Add flour and sugar to a food processor
- While the food processor is running, add the butter (a few cubes at a time) through the opening at the top.
- Once the butter is incorporated, add the water (one tablespoon at a time) until your mixture looks like a ball
- On a clean, lightly floured work surface, using a floured roller, flatten the dough until it is a rectangle about an 1/8 inch thick
- Using a knife, cut out pieces of about 5x3 inches
- Place half of your pieces onto the baking sheet
- Drop cooled fruit filling onto the middle, leaving room along the edges
- Place another piece of crust on top, then seal the edges
- Bake for 15 minutes
- Let cool
- Combine powdered sugar and water until you get a smooth mixture. Add more water as needed
- Dip cooled pop-tarts into the icing
- Decorate immediately
